Good morning! Governor Gavin Newsom (D-California) is fighting back with social media posts mocking DJT’s style. Unlike the Republicans he is not bullying California to redistrict. He will only proceed if Texas doesn’t back down from its redistricting demands, and will request California voters’ approval by ballot vote, as required by California law. We owe it to ourselves to read the posts, and to at the very least, rejoice that another Democrat is finally standing up to DJT. The texts might bother you if you follow  Michelle Obama’s strategy to “go high when they go low.” But if you feel that it’s about time the Democrats fight fire with fire, you are allowed to get some satisfaction.

“Marche des ‘Davidsbündler’ contre les Philistines” is the last piece in Carnaval, Op. 9 by Robert Schumann. Each of the twenty-one piano pieces represents masked guests at Carnaval. The “Davidsbündler” was an imaginary group of artists battling the Philistines, those who didn’t like innovations in modern classical music, and preferred music that was easy to listen to. I can’t help but think of what is happening at the Kennedy Center for the Arts.
