Reinhold Glière was born in Kyiv in 1875. He traveled widely to document and collect folk music. He directed the Kyiv Conservatory and later the Moscow Conservatory. Although he was a prolific composer for the piano, his music is not well-known outside of Europe and the Ukraine. The following Prelude appears in many intermediate piano literature books and is a favorite of both piano teachers and students.
