Good morning! Somehow this slipped away from me. The deadline to comment is October 20th. If you can comment please do so!

The U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC), an independent, bipartisan commission that offers assistance to the states in administering elections, has become the epicenter of a new effort to attack the freedom to vote. The EAC is considering adopting a requirement that all Americans show proof of citizenship with a birth certificate, a passport, or one of a limited number of documents, such as military ID cards, every time they register or reregister to vote.

  • Trump has tried this already. Earlier an anti-voter bill with a similar requirement, failed in Congress thanks to widespread public opposition.
  • His Executive Order that would have implemented a similar policy was blocked by the courts.

The EAC is accepting public comments on this issue. Anti-voter advocates have flooded their website with one-sided and misleading comments. We can fight back with comments of our own. You can choose whether to share your name and information or submit your comment anonymously.

Go to the petition and click “comment.” Share why you oppose this proof of citizenship requirement.

Here are some suggestions for comments:

  • At least 21 million Americansdon’t have that kind of proof readily available.\
  • Only 51 percentof Americans have passports, which cost adults applying for the first time a $165.00 fee, not to mention assembling the documents you need, getting a photograph of yourself, and making it to an appointment.
  • If you’re a married woman who changed or hyphenated her name, you can expect problems if your name doesn’t match your birth certificate. Approximately 69 million women could not use their birth certificate to prove their identity or citizenship status.
  • Voting is a right, not a privilege. Every citizen should be able to participate in our elections easily, without the federal government throwing up artificial barriers that prevent us from exercising our rights.

Have fun at the No Kings March today!

And now the music:
Sir Arthur Edward Drummond Bliss composed this Royal Fanfare. Trump would love to have this played when he makes an entrance. Let’s make sure this will only happen in his dreams!
