Good morning!
The Trump regime is trying to quietly strangle the Head Start program. The proposal would eliminate staff-child ratio and child size requirements, remove limits on suspensions and expulsions, weaken the standards for health and mental health services, lower the qualification standards for teachers, weaken background checks, remove guidelines around supporting children with disabilities, and replace support for bilingual learning with an English instruction requirement for most programs. Black children make up approximately 29% of Head Start participants, Latino children 40%, and children with disabilities 15%.

The Department of Health and Human Services is accepting public comments on the proposal until October 6th. You can object here.

Happy September!
Betty

And now the music:
Franz Schubert was an Austrian composer whose music bridged the Classical and Romantic periods of music, keeping the symmetrical Sonata form but expanding with more lush harmonies. His melodies are irresistible. This Sonata in A Major (D. 664) recently caught hold of me and wouldn’t let go until I learned the whole piece!
