Good morning!
In nine days the third NO KINGS protest will take place on Saturday, March 28th, across the U.S. and in many other countries as well. The first No Kings protest in June 2025 drew approximately 5 million participants; the second march in October 2025 drew over 7 million. There are two striking observations that I have noticed in these marches. There seem to be a LOT more women than men. And there are a LOT more people over the age of fifty than younger adults. I know this is true in my circle of rabble-rousers. So for this march, let’s encourage and challenge more young adults, and more men to participate!

We all have busy lives. But even if you can only show up for an hour, that hour will make you stand taller and prouder for participating in a peaceful demonstration of strength that has nothing to do with weapons or warmongering, and has everything to do with the power of WE, the people. See you out in the field!

And now the music:
Bela Bartok (1881-1945) was born in an area of Hungary that is now part of Romania. He composed “Allegro Barbaro” in 1911. The title is Bartok’s tongue in cheek reaction to previous critics having labeled Bartok’s compositions as barbaric because of its percussive sounds and irregular rhythms. It is a favorite with students. It also caught the ears of the rock band Emerson, Lake & Palmer, who adapted the piece as “The Barbarian” featured on their 1970 debut album. You can hear both versions and decide for yourself which one you prefer!
